Derby Spectacle Plate

This is a really nice plate made by Derby around 1760. This design is known as "spectacle" due to the nature of the rim that sort of look like a pair of early glasses. The center is hand painted with a larger floral arrangement to one side, a large single flower to the other side and three smaller flowers in between with the rim having a raised basket weave type of design with applied flowers to the intersections and circles along the edge. Brown trim to the edge. The flowers were painted by the so called cottom stem painter whose name is not known but whose style is. A really fun plate that is quite different from all others I have come across over the years so it was a must have! The plate is in great condition with just a touch of wear mainly to the pink centers of the applied flowers and the brown trim on the edge. The plate is not marked which is not uncommon on their early wares. It is 0.75 inches tall and 7.5 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
