Pug Dog Figurine

This is a really fun figurine of a pug dog made by Derby in the mid 18th century. The little guy is nicely modeled and hand painted perfectly. The dog is sitting on a base with a bit of green and turquoise painted on it and gold highlights to scrolls along the edge. It has a nice collar around its neck . The reason the ears of these early pieces looks so odd is that they used to be cropped back then until the Queen did not crop the ears of her dog around 1800 and that was the end of that barbarian practice. This is a really nice version of a fairly hard to find figurine. The figure is in great condition but does have an expert restoration to its tail that is invisible, a little wear to the gilding and a tiny rough spot along the bottom edge of the base. He displays perfectly and is one cute figurine! The piece is unmarked except for an incised number 3. The figurine is 2.25 inches tall, 1.75 inches wide and 2.375 inches long.
