Lily Flower Plate

This is a really nice plate made by Derby in the early 19th century. It is hand painted with a superb flower in the center which according to the title in the back is a Catesby Lily which I find interesting sicne it is a native to the Southern US and not the UK. It's Latin name is Lilium catesbaei but it is more commonly known as Catesby's lily / pine lily / leopard lily / tiger lily (which I know it by) and Southern red lily and it is a native of the coastal regions of the Southeast from Florida to Louisiana and up to Virginia .A very nicely hand painted flower on a simple plate with a bit of gilding to the edge of the rim. It looks stunning! The plate is in great condition without any chips or repairs but it does ahve heavy fine crazing to the thick glaze which is pretty common to their wares from this period and a bit of wear to the flower and gilding. A small flaw in the foot ring which is glazed over and from when it was made. Still looks superb on display! It is marked with the red crown and crossed lines over the letter D as well as with the name of the flower in red as shown. There is also a 27 or 47 as a painter's mark - not sure which one it is. The plate is 1.25 inches tall and 8.875 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $299
