Copenhagen University Scene Cup

This is a rare and amazing scenic cup made by Royal Copenhagen in about 1830. The cup has a hand painted scene to the front of the main building of the University of Copenhagen. This university was founded in 1479 - let that one sink in! :) Still among the 50 best in the world. The scene is of very high quality! It is very rare to find these early pieces made by Copenhagen especially the ones with scenes. It's an impressive piece that was painted by their top artist Christian Klein . There is quite a bit of gilding to the rest of the cup covering the foot and the inside rim as well as some more to the handle and around the scene. The piece is in superb condition - as good as they come and displays perfectly. No chips, repairs, etc. The cup is marked with their under glaze blue three waves mark with a dot next to it, the painter's initials in black and the name of the scene in Danish - Univeritetet in black plus and incised mark as shown. The cup is just under 3 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. No saucer but it is not an impossible task to find a matching one since it is just a plain one with some gilding to it. Price is $399
