Copenhagen Portrait Cup & Saucer #1

This is a rare cup and saucer made by Royal Copenhagen in about 1800. The cup has a handpainted portrait of King Christian VII (I believe) on the front while the rest of the cup has a salmon colored ground color with a nice fancy gilding on it. Super handle shape as well! The portrait is on the front while the rest of the cup has a salmon colored ground color with a nice fancy gilding on it. Super handle shape as well! The portrait is painted in shades of grey which was more common around this time. I have never seen portrait cups by them but am sure they are in museums somewhere. The gilding is top quality with lots of detail even within the gilding itself. The set is in good condition with an old hairline to the top rim of the cup about 1.5 inches down into the cup (it is not too obvious!). The top of the handle has a hairline where it attached to the cup but it was never off and since both cups have this issue I assume it is a weak spot in the design! There is a little bit of wear to one spot on the inside gilding on the cup (by the handle) and the edge of the foot. The saucer has more wear to the gilding but is in better shape than the other saucer. The gilding is thick and actually flaked off in areas instead of just wearing off. There is a small chip to the saucers underside rim which one cannot see from the top. Still a fairly easy fix if need be and I will probably have that done! Both pieces are marked with the three blue lines mark with the dot as well as some impressed marks like three lines and a single line on the saucer and a double line on the cup. The cup is 3.5 inches tall plus the handle and 3.25 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and 5.375 inches in diameter. This set is superb and displays very nicely!
