Copeland Scenic Plaque

This is a superb large scenic plaque made by Copeland in England in the mid to later 19th century. It is a tile made by Copeland that was also painted by Copeland hence it being double marked which is neat. The tile has an off white ground color to it with the center having a superb hand painted circular scene to it of the city of Miletus which was a Greek city and is now located in Turkey . It was among the wealthiest of Greek cities before they Perian rule fo the 6th century. The scene is of a very nice quality and includes a few people, some ruins, mountains in the background, trees and what looks to be a mosque possibly the Ilyas Bey mosque. Great landscape all around. The scene is surrounded by a thin black ring as well as a thick gold ring and then some fancy leaf garland all around with some nicely tooled details to it. The bottom has a banner with the name of the city in it. It is a relaly nice piece! The plaque is in superb condition with some very minor oxidation to the thick gold ring around the scene which makes the gilding reddish in color in some places as well as some dark marks to the edge of the scene probably from an old frame of sorts. I got most of it off but did not want to be too rough and it does not distract from the piece.Couple of tiny nibbles to the bottom edge so not visible when on display. Displays perfectly! The entire piece is square and 8 inches on each side. Marked Copeland twice - once impressed and once printed as shown. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
