Chodau Superb Floral Saucer

This is a funny porcelain plate made by Chodau near Carlsbad ( today Chodov ) around 1850. The maker was founded in 1811 by Franz Miessl in Dolní Chodov which is part of the Czech Republic now but was part of the Austrian Empire back then. The VP stamp mark stands for von Portheim who operated the business after 1842. The saucer is superbly hand painted with a nice design on a dark purple ground including three floral arrangements and lots of gilding some of which is raised. This is one of the nicest I have seen by this maker but one rarely comes across any of thir wares. The dish is in superb condition with some very minor wear to the gilding. It is is marked underneath with the impressed V.P. mark as shown as well as a number 19 (I think). The piece is 0.875 inches tall and has a diameter of about 6 inches. Please email me for more information or photos.

Price is $149
