Chodau Funny Plate #1

This is a funny porcelain plate made by Chodau ( Chodov ) around 1843. The maker was founded in 1811 by Franz Miessl in Dolní Chodov which is part of the Czech Republic now but was part of the Austrian Empire back then. The plate has a funny scene in the center of two people running away from a Theater Entrance. The writing underneath the scene states "Die Reisenden geraten ueber die hohen Theaterpreise ins Schrecken" which means the travellers were scared by the high theater prices. I guess the prices of shows increased a lot during this period or who knows. The little plate is in great condition with wear to the gilding as shown. It is is marked underneath with the impressed CHODAUER mark as well as an incised VI mark. The piece has a diameter of about 5.25 inches. Please email me for more information or photos.

Price is $125
