Chinese Urinal

This is an interesting item made in China around the mid 19th century. The few times I have seen these they wre always described as a urinal but I think it's better to say it is a chamberpot or bourdaloue type pot. The piece is hand painted with two nice scenes - one to either side. One includes two ladies fishing while the other has one lady playing the flute with her friend listerning and clapping. The rest of the pot has lots of raised enamel flowers and designs to it as well as fruits and flowers. This type of raised enamel decoration must have been the original that Bayeux in France copied their early pieces from. Interesting to see that and it happens to be one of my favorite makers. The opening has a typical red and gold trim design to it and it comes with a handle to carry it which is fully gilded. A heavy item due to the thick porcelain since you really didn't want this to break while full :) The pot is in great condition with some very minor wear to the gilding and a small firing flaw to the underside. The piece is unmarked which is normal. It is about 4.5 inches tall, 6.75 inches wide and 8.25 inches long. Not an easy to find item. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $499
