James Giles Decorated Reticulated Cup & Saucer

This is a really nice and interesting cup and saucer made in China most likely during the Yongzheng period (1722-1735) but possibly early Qianlong (1735-1796) and decorated in London , England in the mid 18th century most likely by the James Giles studio. The decoration is typical for the work of his studio. floral arrangement style and single flowers as well. The Chinese double - walled reticulated cup and reticulated saucer are rare and superb enough to find but I ahve never come across an example decorated by Giles though I am sure others exist. The cup is hand painted with a superb floral arrangement as well as a bug to the inside bottom with a small single flower covering a paste flaw along the top rim. The outside has two more flower arrangements as well as a nice single flower and a large butterfly in the panels between the reticulated areas and three small flowers and another bug along the bottom near the foot. Brown trim to the edge. The saucer is a single layer with reticulated panels, a small flower arrangement and three small flwoers between them and a large arrangement in the center with a tiny flower and butterly. Same brown trim to the edge. The cup is slightly better in terms of quality of the decoration than the saucer so Giles himself might have done that one. Either way a really nice tea bowl and saucer set. Really nice quality porcelain with a rare design and some superb decoration! The set is in great condition with the cup having just a touch of wear to the brown trim and the saucer has an area along the edge with two hairlines or firing lines. At least one was worked on when this was made not sure about the other one but they are hard to spot and stable. They display perfectly and superbly! The set is not marked underneath but that is normal for this period and maker. The saucer is 1.25 inches tall and 5.5 inches in diameter and the cup is 2.125 inches tall and 3.625 inches in diameter.
