Damaged Kangxi Tankard

This is a large tankard made in China  during the Chinese Kangxi period ( 1661 - 1722 ). It is definitely a very early piece and possibly earlier than any European porcelain. I bought it because I wanted to see the similarities between this and the Vienna DuPaquier period porcelain I like so much. The paste has that same milkglass type look to it and the decoration is really similar in terms of how they did the leaves and that red trim along the bottom. These pieces must have been what influenced them early on! So it was a learning piece for me which is important since the books only get you so far. The tankard has a thick sterling silver trim to the top and must have fallen at some point as you can see a big dent in it and the porcelain has cracked into a ton of pieces from there. It was held together by the silver though and that is probably the only reason it has made it this long. It's still a great looking piece with the iron red and gold flowers hand painted all around with some red trim along the bottom and handle. It's worthy of being restored but I don't usually do that sort of thing so I will leave the choice to its new owner. I added a pic of one in good condition to the end of the listing. The stein is 6.75 inches tall with a bottom diameter of 4.75 inches. Unmarked as is the norm. Damaged as per pictures. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $349
