Sauceboat

This is a superb sauce boat made by Chelsea around 1755. It is in the shape of a strawberry leaf with the flowers by the handle as well as tiny fruit. It is amazingly well modeled and painted. Chelsea's softpaste porcelain is just amazing and their colors are superb. The sauce dish has flowers painted on the outside as well as the inside very much in the manner of early Meissen woodcut flowers. It does not get better than that! The piece sits on moulded feet with strawberry leaves and the vines and fruit on the underside as shown. Nice brown trim to the edge. The sauce boat is in great condition with an old well restored chip to the inside side as shown which has yellowed a bit over time, a tiny restored spot on the very top end of the handle terminal and a hairline to the bottom of the handle which is stable. One small chip to one of the petals of the strawberry flower where the handle meets the body. It displays perfectly and is just fantastic to look at! The piece is 4 inches tall, 4 inches wide and about 6.25 inches long. It is not marked but that isn't too unusual for early Chelsea pieces. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
