Chelsea Platter

This is a platter made by Chelsea in the 18th century during the red anchor period. It is made of softpaste porcelain and handpainted on relief detail. Extremely well done. Nice handpainted flowers in the center and a giant leaf underneath and a brown trim. The plate is in almost the same condition as the day it was made with a bit of wear. Chelsea had some major issues with their manufacturing proces and that is a big part of why they ended up closing. This platter is a good example of some of these. It has some major lines in the paste kind of like firing cracks. Also some glaze bubbles. The leaf underneath was painted over the cracks to make it look nicer. It has two tiny rim chips but otherwise in remarkable condition. The plate is marked with the red anchor mark underneath. The piece is 1.625 inches tall, 12.5 inches long and 10 inches wide.
