Harlequin & Columbine Figure

This is an amazing figurine made by Chelsea around 1755. It is of Harlequin and Columbine dancing but is also known as Tyrolean dancers, Dutch dancers and Polish dancers (though without the mask in those cases!) . Based on an original Meissen model made by Kaendler this is one of those figures that looks great anywhere and from any angle. A stunning piece and about as early as it gets for English porcelain. Harlequin is wearing a mask, a broad brim hat and is wearing a colorful outfit. Columbina is wearing some long braided hair, a nice yellow top and flowy skirt with puce flowers on it. She is wearing a flower on her breast. The base is nicely modeled with gilded scrolls and some flowers and carries the tiny red anchor mark as shown. The piece is just perfectly painted with the typical less crazy colors of the red anchor period. The figurine is in amazing condition really especially for the age. There is some minor damage as one would expect - chips to the bows, flowers and feathers as shown, some scratches to the shoes and his pants, crazing to the thick glaze stained a bit on her wpron which is normal, a small chip to the apron edge and sleeve edge. His leg has damage at the knee with a thin strip of porcelain missing but it honestly does not appear to have been off as the line is not continous all around the leg. The piece displays perfectly and is just a joy to look at! The figurine is 7.125 inches tall, about 5.5 inches wide and 3.25 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
