Capodimonte Fruit Scene Cup & Saucer

This is a very rare and superbcup and saucer made by Capodimonte in about 1750. An incrediblu rare set that is made of soft paste porcelain and has a hand painted baroque fruit scene to the center of the saucer and to the front of the cup. The more elaborate ones are usually said to have been painted by Giovanni Caselli but I think this example here has been painted by Giacomo Nani . These scenes are known as natura morta and include local / native Neapolitan fruit in a little landscape. Here there is a basket as part of the scenes which is a nice addition. The edges have a nice gold trim to the as does the superbly shaped handle. Capodimonte porcelain from this period is exceedingly rare and this is the frist set I ahve owned in all the eyars of collecting! The saucer is 1 inch tall and has a diameter of 5.5 inches. The cup is 2.5 inches tall with a diameter of 2.625 inches. Each piece is marked underneath with the blue fleur de lis mark of Capo di Monte which is not something you see often at all! These are often messy as can be seen on the saucer which is barely decipherable but the cup has a nice clear example! The set is in great condition and displays perfectly but if you look at the top view of the cup is has a minor dent on one side - I cannot decode if this was done in production or if a tiny thin flake chip was ground away. Even with a magnifying glass I cannot tell. There is the tiniest of chips near the handle on the top rim and another just as tiny but flatter on the edge. and looking under magnification I think someone touched up the gold just along the very edge along part of it but that is a minor issue. Obviously there is a touch of wear to the gilding which is to be expected after 275 years. None of these issues are obvious when on display even if you are looking for them. It's just an amazing set and not one you'll find again! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
