Chinoiserie Teabowl

This is a rare tea bowl made by Bristol in about 1775. W. Cookworthy founded Plymouth around 1768 but soon after moved the factory to Bristol (around 1770) where he continued to make hard paste porcelain with the help of Richard Champion. Champion bought the factory from him around 1773. He sold the factory in 1781 after which it was closed. They made hard paste porcelain as opposed to soft paste that all the other British makers used during this period. This cup is hand painted superbly with a polychrome Chinoiserie type design all around including three figures doing different activities. A nice reddish trim to the inside and the edge. Quite a nice design and very hard to find by this maker. The cup is in great condition with a some minor chips all along the thin top inside edge. It is marked with the greyish blue cross mark - nice to ahve a marked example! The cup is 1.75 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
