Bayeux Sectional Box

This is a great sectional Bento / lunch box made by Bayeux during the Gosse period of the mid 19th century. I have never seen this outside of Asian porcelain so it was a must have for me. The set consists of three boxes and a lid each piece fitting on top of the other in a specific order so there are each slightly different. The bottom has two indentations so you can get it of the table more easily and to connect the metal piece to it that would go through the handles and over the lid to carry it though I do not have that part. The lid has the indetations for that as well. No wear on those areas so not sure if the metal was ever used here!? Each piece is decorated with lots of small designs including snakes, weapons, butterflies, leaves anf figures of all sorts. Hard to mention them all so look at the pictures. This style of decoration was popular in the mid 19th century and even KPM used it. The handles are nicely shaped with the attachments made to look like screws. The colors used are black, beige, a dark orange and some gilding with raied white highlights here and there. One of the most fun pieces I have seen in a while and definitely very unusual in terms of shape in the world of European porcelain! The pieces are all in great condition with a tiny bit of wear mostly to two handles and one figural decoration. No chips, etc. The set is not marked but that is pretty normal! The entire piece is 8.375 inches tall with the lid having a diameter of 6.25 inches. You can use it for your lunch or to store lots of knicknacks in it or something along those lines - be creative :) Please email me for more information or other pictures.
