Gentleman Bust

This is a superb figural bust of a gentleman made of majolica in the 19th century. During my research I found similar pieces labeled as Italian , Continental , French, English and German and none were ever marked so there was no certainty but to me the style and quality points to either Austrian or German for sure. The gentleman is wearing a renaissance period hat and looks to be from the 17th century possibly based on King James I. I found them described as Elizabethan era or Tudor period in terms of clothing. An extremely well modeled and painted figure with some nice detail including the feathers on his hat and the beard. It has a nice base as part of the design - not separate. I always wonder why these nice quality items end up being unmarked. One would think they would have liked to advertise their wares! The figurine is in great condition with a small spot of glaze missing on the corner of his collar and a repair to a chip along the edge of the base as shown. Some crazing to the glaze from age as is common to this sort of ceramic but he displays perfectly and looks superb! The bust including the base about 12.75 inches tall, 8.25 inches wide and 5 inches deep. Unmarked sadly so there is no help in ID the maker from that end.
