Vienna Cupid Scene Plate #2

This is a plate made by one of the many factories copying the Royal Vienna beehive / shield mark in the 19th or early 20th century. The center is hand painted with a signed scene of a Cupid and Cephisa to it. The story goes that Cephisa wants to cut the wings of Love (cupid) while the guy standing is Montesquieu who stops her from doing so. It is after a painting after Kaufmann's Céphise et l'Amour . The scene is of a nice quality. The edge of the well of the plate has a gold trim to it and the rim has a nice blue ground with fancy gilding to it. Typical for plates in this style. These types of plates are very elegant and decorative which is why they are so popular. The plate is in great condition with some wear to the gilding around the edge of the well. It displays perfectly! The piece is 9.625 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches tall so a very nice size. It is marked underneath with the blue shield / beehive mark as well as the name of the scene in black Cupido und Cephisa as shown. Please email me for more information or photos.

Price is $399
