Original Period Rare Dancer Figurine

This is a rare and superb figurine designed by Mathilde Jaksch in the 1920s and made by Augarten during the original period around this time. It is of the dancer Toni Birkmeyer (Anton Heinrich Birkmeyer) who was the first Solo dancer and Ballet director of the Vienna State Ballet / Opera. This here shows him in the Josephslegende (The Legend of Joseph) which is a ballet in one act for the Ballets Russes based on the story of Potiphar's Wife, composed in 1912–14 and premiered at the Paris Opera in 1914. One can find this model in white but I have never come across it in the painted version and could find another one during my research. A nicely modeled piece that is hand painted to perfection. The figure is in perfect condition. The piece is 8 inches tall, 2.25 inches wide and 2.5 inches deep. Marked underneath with the blue shield with the crown on top as well as the word Wien underneath, Augarten Austria in a red rectangle and the impressed number 1627. The base has the words Toni Birkmeyer and Josephslegende written in gold on the outside edge. Please email me for more information or photos.

Price is $1249
