Spanish Riding School Capriole Lippizan Figurine

This is a figurine made by Augarten in the mid 20th century. It is from the series of figures depicting different parts of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna first modeled in the mid 20th century by Herbert Schwarz this one being called en Capriole . Most of the other pieces from this series were produced in the 1920s but due to it being extremely diffcult to make with the horse up in the air this one was first modeled around the middle of the 20th century. The modeling, detail and painting of this piece is superb! It has the handler standing on the base with the horse only supported by his shoulder and left hand. Amazing that they were able to make this! The horse is superbly modeled with a nice sadlle and the fragile reigns. The figurine is in perfect condition except for the little whip / stick the jockey is holding looks to be a replacement. It jsut sticks in a hole in his hand so these are often missing or replaced. Does not affect the porcelain parts of the figure! AMazingly the reigns are in perfect shape which is not often the case at all. The figure is 11.625 inches tall, 5.125 inches deep and about 10.25 inches long - so quite large. The piece is marked underneath with the blue shield with the crown on top as well as the word Wien underneath, impressed letter D, impressed 1833, Made in Austria impressed and Augarten Wien Austria in red with the painter's numner 203 in black as shown. The side of the base reads Capriole - Spanische Reitschule on one side and Hofburg Wien on the other. Please email me for more information or photos.
