Callot Figurine

This is a fun figurine of a Callot little person (formely known as dwarf) made by Augarten during the 1920s. Named after Jacques Callot who was a baroque printmaker and draftsman from France in the 17th century. Quite famous in the porcelain world for his print of dwarves which were often used as models for porcelain figurines and paintings in the 18th century. This figure here was modeled after and 18th century original by the Vienna factory. The figure is wearing a jester or clown outfit while holding a cup of some sort. My favorite part is the little tongue that sticks out of his mouth. A superbly modeled and hand painted piece. The figure is in perfect condition and is 4.375 inches tall, 2 inches wide and 2.25 inches deep. Marked underneath with the blue shield with the crown on top as well as the word Wien underneath, Augarten Austria in a red rectangle, a black 4 as the painter's number and the impressed number 1001. Please email me for more information or photos.
