Arras Tureen

This is a tureen made by Arras around 1780. Arras was only around from about 1770 to 1790 and their pieces are rare to find. Very similar to Tournai porcelain. This tureen is handpainted with a blue and gold design copied from Tournai. The decor is called Ronda (or a la Ronda) when just blue and I am not sure if the name is different with the gilding. Also some gold trim. It is made of softpaste porcelain and in superb condition! Three short hairlines to the lid which are very old and probably from the making. You cannot see them from the top unless you really hunt for them in the right light and even then it takes me a while! Also some odd black staining underneath the lid probably also original to the piece. It is rare to find a large piece in this good a condition! The bottom of the tureen is marked with the underglaze blue AR mark as well as another letter which is either a P or a D. Oddly the whole bottom is flat and glazed. I am not used to seeing that as Meissen pieces for example are always unglazed when flat like this. The lidded piece measures 8 inches tall, 13 inches wide and 8 inches deep.
